The 2021 Waterfront Ambassadors season has kicked off, welcoming 11 teens from the Boston area including East Boston, Revere, Lynn, Hyde Park, and Chinatown.

The Trustees Boston Waterfront Initiative’s summer youth employment program is based in East Boston, and has a mission to engage teens on waterfront issues in and around their neighborhoods and communities.

"We started this summer's program with a theme of ‘Building Community,’ and we did variety of activities to build a sense of connection and trust within our program,” noted Sarah Plotkin, Waterfront Ambassadors Program Manager. “We also spent a lot of time in East Boston, which is where we’ll be doing a majority of our work this summer.”

One of the first activities for the Ambassadors was a photography project, around The Trustees Boston office. Under the guidance of Boston Society of Landscape Architects (BSLA) Executive Director Gretchen Rabinkin, it was the beginning phase of a larger project in which the teens will use photography to observe the city of Boston in new ways, including through the lens of Environmental Justice.

This summer the Ambassadors will learn from and work with East Boston grassroots and non-profit community partners through outdoor stewardship projects and workshops.
